As recent as June 29th., 2009, a nev version of the digital topographic map of the world was released by NASA and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
It is the most complete topographic map of Earth up to date...

The Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM) covers the Earth's land surface between 83 degrees North and 83 degrees South latitudes.
It was made by processing and stereo-correlating 1.3 million optical images from ASTER's archive.

In this colorized version, high elevations are shown in orange, red and white, medium elevations in greens and yellows and low elevations in purple.
