As a word of caution, the city receives bad press regarding security and safety for travelers but I honestly think this is overstated.
Certainly is not free from problems associated with poverty, but this is a reality that applies for just too many cities in the world- including first world countries.
We lived in Rome long enough to find it out.
In thirty plus years traveling the world we've been robbed twice, in both cases by policemen in uniform.
Are there any guarantees?.......certainly not.
