Out of the almost one hundred beaches that Ilha Grande has to offer, the twin beaches of Pouso/Mangues are not the most famous or celebrated, however, they do share the outstanding scenery and warm waters that characterizes this paradisiacal island as a whole.
Small, secluded, with only one little restaurant and a pousada nearby, the are divided by some rocks and an old pier, so they almost seem like just one single beach. Located about 25 minutes by boat from Abraao, they are the entry point to the trail that leads to one of the most famous beaches of Brazil: Lopes Mendes.
T ( trilha=trail) 11 starts precisely at Mangues beach, a steep climb of about 20/30minutes to reach Lopes Mendes. On the way, just before the end of it, you'll see the sign pointing to Santo Antonio on the right, a small, rocky beach you wouldn't like to miss either - around 15 minutes hike off T11.
If you don't have the time, or the inclination to hike all the way from Abraao, the boat to Pouso/Mangues round trip it's the quickest and easiest way. On a typical day, you'll depart from the village at around 9.30am and will be picked up at Pouso at around 2.30/3pm.
