Barra da Lagoa

It's hard to say which one of all Florianópolis beaches is my favourite. It's almost unfair to attempt it since there are just too many of them and too nice to choose a single one.

There is, however, a tiny fishing village that suit me perfect to my lifestyle, where I could easily spend one month a year: Barra da Lagoa, some 20 km away from Floripa.

Got stuffed with fresh mangoes, abacaxi and tons of sea food there. Did some trekking, kayaking, swimming and sipped a few caipirinhas as well.
In between, took a few pictures trying to capture the spirit of the place.

Photos of Brazil: Barra da Lagoa is a visual recollection to introduce you to the place, if you haven't.

Pretty relaxed, bohemian and very friendly, Barra still preserves the fishing traditions of Azorean ancestors we see all over Ilha do Santa Catarina, also evident in architecture, festivities, religious practices and food recipes.

You'd love snorkeling and kayaking at canal do Barra da Lagoa, or try your hand at surf in the open Atlantic waters. In fact, Barra's beach is ideal for beginners, while there are plenty of options for surfing in Brazil if you are experienced or even professional in the art of riding waves.

Perhaps you'd like to do some trekking through the Mata Atlantica and visit piscinas naturais, or join a party at Prainha's beach, Barra's most popular gathering point for international travellers as there are several hostels nearby. Dont' forget to bring your own drinks though.

I certainly do. Furthermore, I'm back to Floripa next April, just can't have enough from it.
