Diving Galapagos and Exploring Ecuador's Cultural Markets

by Kathy Webb
(Southern USA)

Our adventure began in Quito, Ecuador where the vistas are beautiful and breathtaking. We only had a few days there at the onset of our trip before flying to Galapagos to board our diving liveaboard!

Thus began our seven-day exploration of the amazingly awe-inspiring world under the surface of the Galapagos Islands.

We dove all the way to Darwin and Wolf Islands and back and we had over 15 whale shark sightings.....one of the most spiritual experiences of my life.

After our underwater adventure we explored the islands themselves and befriended marine iguanas and blue-footed boobies.

After our island excursions we flew back to Quito and stayed at a bed and breakfast villa that was simply wonderful.

The food was delicious and the people warm and friendly. I found treasures at the local market day when area villagers bring in their handmade crafts to sell at a central meeting point near Quito.

I now proudly display these beautifully-made crafts in my home for all to see.

I cannot find words to express how this trip impacted my life.

South America is full of wonder and excitement and I have only begun to explore its riches. I cannot wait for the next opportunity life provides me to visit again!
